Tadabur is an Arabic word defined in English as looking behind something, or to think and spiritually reflect. At our retreat, we encourage our writing community to look 'behind' or ‘beneath’ the surface. This is an opportunity to slow down, seclude yourself into your very own cave, sit in your thoughts, and write.
We will practice with you tazkiyat al-nafs (soulful wellness) through reflection, somatic practice, and healthy meals in hopes that if we nourish your body, it will nourish creativity for your soul.
Balagha is the craft of eloquence. It means to 'reach’ or to get through to someone through thought and expression. To us, this means perfecting one's writing as enhancing your writing skills can enhance your balagha.
Our expert women instructors will help you build on your existing skills by giving you a safe incubator to learn, expand, and grow. This can become your springboard to furthering your writing career after our retreat.
Ummah, meaning community, has a root word of umm which means mother. To us, this signifies that community has an origin, a foundation, and a seed. It emphasizes the female role in the collective responsibility.
We give you the space to gather amongst women writers from around the world—a unique opportunity to exchange thought, deepen connections, and enrich your writing through shared perspective. This, in turn, becomes your opportunity to give back to the community. Building on your craft is a service to us all.
